: I'm convinced the biggest difference between this site and DDL sites is the obsession with the character rather than the actor. We live in a world where courage is rarely rewarded, and conformity is encouraged. Hawkeye represents a freedom and independence long lost and sorely missed. He's also a symbol of the truely romantic: that one man who can save us and fall forever in love with us at the same time! I've learned to be truely thankful my husband can't read my mind.

And now for a more serious response, NightSky...while I think DDL is the best actor around, bar none, and find him incredibly sexy in most of his roles, what the heck do I really know about HIM as a person? I suspect he's of above average intelligence, and surely above average intensity. He's probably an interesting person. But I really don't know squat, except what I read in the mags, and we all know how reliable THAT is. So how can I (or anyone else, REALLY) know Daniel Day-Lewis as a man? We can't. Now HAWKEYE, we've been told and shown to be a certain type of character, and even though he's fictional, he's just what many of us would LOVE to find, for all of the reasons you listed above. I figure that makes HIM the better fantasy, for the most part. And even though I love my hubby, a little fantasy now and then never hurt anybody, so it's Hawkeye for ME! ;o)

Having said that, I'd still like to see DDL do something new soon. His movies always provide great entertainment and much to think about, IMHO, and it's time for him to give us something new to ponder.
