Am able to get online today for the first time in awhile...hoping it will last long enough for me to post. I have never been able to see this cut in the opening shots of Hawkeye. It doesn't show in the wonderful closeup of him immediately following the shooting of the elk. I've always assumed he was supposedly slightly injured during the ambush fighting. Maybe at the same time Uncas gets the wound in his side...or was that supposed to occur later on, right before reaching the fort. ANOTHER thing that could have been explained in the DVD!
