: To whom it concerns:
: What is the name of the type of war club used by the character Chingachgook in "Last of the Mohicans?" Was it exclusive to that tribe or more widely used? If you haven't seen the movie, the club is about three feet in length, roughly scimitar shaped, made of wood but may have a metal edge or point.
: Any information you could send me would be much appreciated.
: Best Regards,
: Kevin

Kevin,
It`s called a "gunstock warclub" and was believed to be used by many different tribes. It was copied from the gunstock because it was believed that the Natives gained a respect for the Europeans use of their musket as such when the enemy was to close to reload. Most but not all had a spike or spear type point on the edge where the top of the stock made the angle down. I have made a few of these and will have one, and two "ball headed clubs" on display at G2K in June.
