Odette and Darla...yes, let us desperados begin this!
Okay, how 'bout an amalgum of the ideas you suggested, Darla.
She slipped and hit her head just as Uncas was holding out his hand to help her down that treacherous natural stone stairway in the cave. She passed out and dreamed...
...first she dreams of standing on the edge under the waterfall, Uncas pulls her back, she melts into his warm, protective embrace, and the rest of her dream comprises the rest of the movie...
She awakens after a day or so, in the cave, looking up to see Uncas keeping watchful vigil over her, caring for her, along with Cora of course. Everyone is still there, the Hurons have passed them by for now, and they are all thankful that Alice is well and has regained consciousness. They must prepare to move once more, because after all, Magua will never give up until Munro's seed is wiped out.
As she watches Uncas move about the cave, and their eyes meet several times, Alice senses something new. Uncas is returning her gaze with a warmth and familiarity that wasn't there before. Alice begins to wonder if perhaps her dream of their embrace under the falls might have been real after all. While taking a drink of water from Cora, Alice brings up her puzzlement in a roundabout way: "Cora, I'm sorry for being an invalid schoolgirl. But I have slept peacefully, with this fearless and generous looking warrior for my sentinel!"
"We were worried you might leave us, dear Alice. Your sentinel refused to leave your side. He cradled your head in his lap all night, stroking your brow. He seems to feel quite responsible for your wellbeing, sister. Gather your strength now. We shall have to move on soon. I'll help you...that is, if your new friend will allow me!" Cora smiled almost playfully at Alice.
Then it wasn't a dream! Now she lay back and closed her eyes, conjuring up the memory of the warmth and strength of his embrace, the feel of his breath on her face. She sighed involuntarily, recalling now that she had felt his heart beating in his chest. Suddenly the world was transformed for her. Perhaps she could weather this terrible trial after all, with Uncas' help and the help of her beloved, strong sister, and friend Duncan and the other Mohicans who, after all, knew this country and were skilled in its ways. Yes, maybe there was a chance they could make it out of here after all, and back to safety. But there was still such a long way to go, and they were not out of danger yet.
OKAY, TAKE IT AWAY, SOMEONE!
