: : : : : Ok, to while away the hours as we await Christmas & the New Century ... Here's another photo to dwell over & try to figure out WHO? The person on the left is unidentified, but, the gal on the right ... Any takers?
: : : : : Meanwhile, received part of a garbled message on my answering machine from MMMM ... Appears a virus did in her hard drive. From what I could gather, it was something "time-activated," and she seemed to have reason to believe it may have derived from that elf-bowling thing some of you have mentioned. Independent from Marcia's message, I have heard that there was a virus associated with that game. Whether or not that is another in a long line of virus hoaxes, I have no idea, but Marcia's machine is definitely down. Hope no one else out there has been affected, but if you have that bowling thing, it might be a good idea to get rid of it ... and soon!
: : : : Rich and All,
: : : : I had E-mailed the Elf Bowling attachment to several friends some weeks ago, but have had no trouble with it on my own computer, nor have any of the people I E-mailed it to indicated they had problems - only Marcia, that I have heard of. I got it originally from circulation on our computer at work, and no one here has had a problem with it. I don't remember the date I sent it, but Chris and Pat were recipients of it, and they both E-mailed back to say they were having a wonderful time with it - no problems indicated. Is it possible a later contaminated version was circulated, or is some other E-mail or attachment the culprit?

: : : Gayle, Rich et al,
: : : I ran the elfbowl.exe through two virus detectors which found nothing. I too have had no problems with it at all. Dana S forwarded an email claiming that elfbowl.exe contained a timed release virus that was supposed to take effect on Christmas day.
: : : Then she followed that up with another email apologizing and stating that the first was another hoax. I tend to agree. However, it is not impossible that somebody who is an evil genius could have been sent the elfbowl.exe and reworked it to contain a virus then forwarded it on. Perhaps there is a version out there that has a virus, but the original vendor is reputable, and I have had no problem. So.......as always......it comes down to each one of us doing what we think is best or risking finding out the hard way. I am thinking, for me, I will enjoy it and wipe it
: : : the day before Christmas.....but like I said, two virus detector
: : : software checks found nothing.

: : Bill, Gayle, Rich et all,
: : My husband sent elfbowl.exe to us from work. No one has had any problems in his office so far. The local radio station did an all day story on this game in Indianapolis yesterday. Everyone enjoys the game (highest score: 238), and the general feeling is that the virus scare is a hoax. Thanks, Bill, for explaining all that. You actually made me look kinda smart! :)
: : HELLOOOOOOO, Gayle! Tell Pat that I miss Old Crone, will you? I am almost done with Deerslayer. I'll bet you thought we were finished. No way! Just got bogged down a bit. Let's resume discussions this Sunday. I miss your posts!

: Hi Dana,
: Sorry we all got sidetracked from the Deerslayer thing for a while, but I know everybody has had a bunch going on with the holidays coming up and everything. I have been swamped with various things, including a writing project on The Leatherstocking Tales that had a short deadline. Have just been snapping onto the Board and back off again every day to keep an eye on things. Will get on Sunday for a while, I promise. Let me know where you want to pick up discussions.

Hi Gayle,
Lets just go through Ch. 15. That will keep it fresh and we can finish after Christmas. Okay?
