Clabert, you're a lifesaver! Again, you've outdone yourself. As far as Alexandria being pregnant, I personally don't think so. Granted, I haven't seen the DVD, and my 19" TV hardly does anything justice, but a "thicker waistline" may have been somewhat of a necessity on the frontier. These women worked their butts off just to survive, and some muscle would have certainly accumulated. On the other hand, having children certainly took part of the workload off the parents' shoulders, so maybe she was. It would seem to me, however, that if she was, it was probably an accident. By which I mean, the actress herself was pregnant and it showed up a little in the movie. If Michael Mann had wanted to portray a pregnant woman, chances are he would have portrayed a nine-months-pregnant woman, for dramatic effect. It would make the "Ottawa, two Francais" seem even more evil.
Thanks again, Clabert. You're my hero.
