[he] said the re-shooting was necessary for the explanation of the romantic involvement of [Day-] Lewis and Stowe."

It's beginning to sound as if Michael Mann had NOTHING to do with this "director's cut" isn't it? Other than allowing it to be done perhaps? sounds as if some editing trainee went through it with a meat cleaver and he/she had the sensitivity of a toilet seat, and the artistic talent of a moose.

Perhaps I put the mouse droppings under the wrong pillow?
