Hi, Rich & Violet...just in case Violet isn't familiar with our flora and fauna, let me say that the "obvious answer" would be that it is named after a fish. Bass are one of sports fishermen's dream catches...lovely to look at, delightful to EAT! Mayhap the pond was full of them? Or stocked with them? Or, as Rich suggests, maybe there's another story.
