: While reading Deerslayer, I can't help but think about all of these shows. The same with reading LOTM. So many scenes Cooper descibes, I have seen in one show or another. If I didn't know any better, I would think Cooper had watched all these shows right along with us.
: My "romantic self" is smitten with Natty B. What a guy! No Hollywood Hero will ever come close...well, maybe Fess Parker's Dan'l.
: Sorry about jumping the gun again. This thought just seemed to fit in here.

Dana,
Glad you see the romantic youth in Natty. No doubt about it, he's in his ugly duckling phase in The Deerslayer - kind of barely post-pimples, before he grew up to be Daniel Day-Lewis and got sleek muscles and hair extensions. There is a sense of vulnerability that leaks through his sermonizing, and you have to feel for the guy when he messes up, which he does fairly often. He gets so guilt-ridden when he does something reckless, and he struggles so hard with the right and wrong of things. However, if we get as far as going through The Last of the Mohicans together, one of the most interesting things about him is the complete change that 15 years makes in his personality.
And don't worry about jumping the gun - Kate tells me she is already through chapter FIVE!
