: : I just talked to a few reenactor friends of mine telling me to be glad I didn`t take up the invite to be an extra in the new Mel Gibson movie "The Patriot". Seems that the director is more into making this a "Mel Gibson pretty boy" movie then historically correctness. Quite a few of the reenactors walked off the set after they were told HOW they were going to do something instead of HOW IT WAS SUPPOSED to be done.
: : Again, this is just what I heard from them so we may not have a movie that is close to being as good as LOTM. (but could there ever be?)

: Clabert,

: Funny thing....I was talking to Don Getz yesterday and we got on the subject of Killdeer which led to LOTM which led to talking about a similar situation on THAT set. According to Getz and his reenactor buddies, the director ignored advice about inaccuracies pointed out on that set also. More than that, he was saying the man who was training the group in fighting and such absolutely positively stated that ALL indian tomahawks had a 23 inch or more handle as a favorite tactic in war was to reach down and hook the leg with it and trip the guy, THEN whack him with the hatchet. Not sure I would wanna expose MY neck using that tactic.

: Point is, according to Getz, there was much the same stuff going on during filming of LOTM and a number of reenactors left in disgust. There are much more personally involved people posting to this website though who could either verify that or refute it.

Bill,
I hope it turns out to be a good show. You know how hearsay can be. It`s about time for another one to raise an interest in history. I hope some one else will write in and tell us it`s going well on the movie set.
