: : HEY RICH! WHAT ABOUT THEM YANKEES OF YOURS, EH?
: : Bill R
: Well, it's like this ... if you MUST know the truth.
: Back in the 50's, when I was just a tadpole, we lived in Brooklyn ... and then Lynbrook ... New York. My Dad was a HUGE Brooklyn Dodgers fan. He HATED Les Yengeese! A true Huron!
: So, I had "Dodgers" tattooed on my brain, and became a Dodger fan. My all time best baseball moment was Kirk Gibson's DRAMATIC home run in the 1988 World Series. I bleed Dodger Blue. During baseball season, I live & die with my Dodgers. I can't help it if
: they absolutely STINK! ... despite one of the highest payrolls in the game & a wealth of talent. You think I have it bad??? Pity the poor Cubs fan ... or Red Sox (hear me Sandy??) fan!
: So, I'm not REALLY a Yankee fan, though I certainly was pulling for them this, and last, year.
: After the Dodgers left Brooklyn for LA, there was a baseball void in NY for National League fans (the Giants left, too, you might remember) until 1962, or so, when along came the hapless Metropolitans (Mets). So, during that time, I did root for the Yanks ... and saw some GREAT Yankee teams in the early 60's. I grew to loathe them, however, when they beat up on my boys in the '77 & '78 World Series. Not nice at all ...
: This current Yankee squad is hard to dislike, however. They are a no-nonsense, no frills team that plays hard all the time, does everything it takes to win. Remarkable! And, hard to believe, but the New York Yankees, all by their lonesomes, have won exactly 25% of all Baseball World Championships in the 20th century. Incredible. As a New Yorker (still, at heart) I can't help but to be proud.
: Despite all that ... it's still ...
: GO DODGERS!!!

Hey Rich:
I know what you mean about loving a team that "sucks". I have lived in Southern California all of my life (and will NEVER leave!!) and I've always was torn between the Dodgers and the Angels. The Dodgers had a great history in the 70's & 80's. But I finally gave up on them after the 81 World Series. Allowing that great infield of "Garvey, Lopes, Cey, and Russell to slowly leave the team left a empty feeling...I never forgave the management for that....
As for the Angels, well it's been one heartache after another so I'm kinda used to them losing....The real killer was in the 86 playoffs when they were one pitch away of going to the World Series!!!! One Pitch!!! So I'm used to having a broken heart.
As for other sports, I had season tickets for the L.A. Rams the last 7 seasons they were here. I love football more than anything. The Rams were another team that couldn't quite make it.. But this year they look as though they are something!! Not to mention that my AFC team the Miami Dolphins are winning too!! Winning ugly, but winning non the less...
So maybe all is not lost.. As Far as the Dodgers go....well there's always next year...
