When things happen to make your original bit of work unusable, why not turn it into something fun & sell for a lesser price to those of us who'd not care that it wouldn't actually kill an elk?  As long as you don't misrepresent the fact that it was made from a damaged stock, I'd think it a wonderful bit of recycling, and wouldn't mind having something like that for kicks.
