Well, not being a trekker OR a re-enactor, my word will not be definitive, but here's how I interpret the difference ...
A re-enactor strives, as the name implies, at re-enacting, or re-creating, an event or life-style of a particular era.
A trekker, is, in probably nearly all cases, a re-enactor. The subtle difference being that this re-creation is not of a specific event necessarily, but a period "trek" into the wilderness, or elsewhere.
I would think woman are welcome in either case ...
Any re-enactor/trekker want to elaborate, confirm, or otherwise?
