: : : Hi Everyone!
: : : Well, what do ya all think? Shall we have a book of the "2 month club"? The reason I say 2 months is so all of the busy people have time to read a book. Then we could all discuss the experience in the chat room or on the board. I think it would be great fun to share our thoughts on different themes and stories. Pehaps we could start out with a Sherman Alexie novel or collection of stories. We could aim for a December date.
: : : I am off to Oregon for 1 week, so I won't be able to participate in everyone's thoughts until I get back. I will be leaving tomorrow morning.
: : : Have a great day everyone,

: : I think a book club would be a great idea. I'd vote for starting with the Cooper books since I haven't read them yet. As for reading deadlines, I'm part of a Jane Austen list where members read a chapter or two a week and discuss the books as they go along. Usually one member takes the lead in dissecting each book with others commenting. It works pretty well -- especially with a set schedule of small pieces to be read so everybody's all together and it's do-able for busy folks. Just a thought!

: Hey Jenifer,
: Is this the very same Jenifer that was at the gathering? - Good to hear from you and to know your still out there!
: I think the " a chapter at a time" or so sounds like a good idea to me ! I couldn't imagine trying to discuss a whole book at a time the way we like to talk around here. I have LOTM AND the Cliff Notes and still have trouble finding focused, uninterrupted time to delve through the book and make any headway. So count me in, but only if at a working woman's pace. I've had to become quite the time thief of late when trying to find time to read. Thanks for the link, Dana, to Gayle's article - That'll give me something to steal a few minutes for tonight.

Hi All,
I'd like to join in the discussions of the Cooper books, and I have some questions about Chat Room vs. Board. If we use the Chat Room, there might be some difficulties with time differences and other committments that would make it hard for everybody to get together each time. Lose a chapter of Cooper, and you're dead in the water. Also, I don't know about everybody else's computer service, but there are times when mine is so clogged that I have trouble getting on at all - and if we were limited to specific times, that might be a problem.
If we were to use the Board, we could start a title thread, and each time we addressed a new chapter or two, we could add the chapter number to the title. That way we could keep questions and explanations available for reference. Also, anyone who happened upon the Board for the first time could join in the discussions if they wanted to and would be able to pick up on the context. If we were in the Chat Room, new people would not even know the discussions were going on, so could not jump in with us. And they wouldn't have the benefit of being able to go back to review what was discussed before.
What are your thoughts?
