: : : : Hi Everyone!
: : : : Well, what do ya all think? Shall we have a book of the "2 month club"? The reason I say 2 months is so all of the busy people have time to read a book. Then we could all discuss the experience in the chat room or on the board. I think it would be great fun to share our thoughts on different themes and stories. Pehaps we could start out with a Sherman Alexie novel or collection of stories. We could aim for a December date.
: : : : I am off to Oregon for 1 week, so I won't be able to participate in everyone's thoughts until I get back. I will be leaving tomorrow morning.
: : : : Have a great day everyone,

: : : I think a book club would be a great idea. I'd vote for starting with the Cooper books since I haven't read them yet. As for reading deadlines, I'm part of a Jane Austen list where members read a chapter or two a week and discuss the books as they go along. Usually one member takes the lead in dissecting each book with others commenting. It works pretty well -- especially with a set schedule of small pieces to be read so everybody's all together and it's do-able for busy folks. Just a thought!

: : Hold that thought, Jenifer! Make that TWO votes for starting with the Cooper books. One or two chapters at a time is also a great idea. Who could we ask to lead discussions on Cooper books, I wonder? HMMMMM?

: Hello, Jenifer, welcome to the board.
: Hi! Dana, too!
: A nice thought....I will have to find my Cooper book I threw against the wall to read AGAIN...as I am at fault for not understanding what that author was trying to say...but the idea of a book club does interest me...(I've got nothing better to do at the house today...)so we do get a leader.....hey, who is that that can lead us....or should I say; if we read Cooper, she will lead us....
: What book do we start with?? (I may need more than two months to get through Cooper...ha, ha!)
: Jo
Yea, Jo. Maybe two months per chapter for me. Hi again, Jenifer! And let me add my wecome to Jo's. Jenifer, since you have not read any Cooper, I would recommend taking a look at an article by Gayle Clark titled NATTY BUMPPO: Trailing The Pathfinder. It is a fantastic overview of all the Pathfinder novels. (I have attempted to put in a link in this post.)
Jo, Cooper is hard for me to read as well! That is why I went back into the archives to find ANY commentary for inspiration. There are some good threads. I have only read LOTM. The first time, I read it really fast because I skipped all the words I didn't understand. Then I purchased a paperback so I could highlight all those words and look them up. I'm still on the first page. It's pretty slow going.
Jayne, would you be interested in doing the Cooper books?
Should we start with the first one Cooper wrote? Take them in the order written? Maybe we should have a Cooper Club in addition to a club reading more contemporary authors.
