Question for Silver Wolf....The Hair Thing

About the hair thing, Silver Wolf. From what I have read (which ain't a whole heck of a lot) native americans shaved their heads save for one section called a scalplock(?)when they were at war. In LOTM I noticed most of the actors who attacked in the valley wore their hair in this manner. There was one who did not, and he stuck out like a sore thumb. As a re-enactor, I think one would have to be quite dedicated to wear their hair like this all the time. So, how do you wear your hair?

Another hair question. In one of the fort scenes in the film, there is a warrior sitting by a fire smoking a pipe or something. As he blows smoke out, he kind of rubs it on his head. What's THAT all about?
