OK. I know I'm a week or so late with my first impressions, but I wanted to comment. I had never read the book so didn't have a clue how it would end. I nearly went into shock when Magua killed Uncas. That shock was compounded by the fact that I have a fear of heights. Her lover dead, Alice steps to the edge and looks over. I'm nearly under my seat. She looks at Magua, looks out again and steps off. I nearly died right there. I don't think I took a breath from the time Uncas died until the final scene. The ending still ties me in knots even after the many times I have seen it.
