Dear Polly Anna,

Please accept my most abject apologies for my flying into such a rage the other day over that little set-to between Basil and Percival. I don't know what came over me. You and I have been good neighbors for so many years, and I would truly be distraught if I thought our friendship was spoiled.

Just to smooth things over a bit, may I invite you to a lovely afternoon of apple picking over at Farmer Sue T. Cal's orchard? We could take a picnic lunch and enjoy the WHOLE AFTERNOON roaming among her lovely apple trees and gathering her ALAR-free apples for our autumn pies and applesauce. Certainly the small cost of a bushel of apples is the least I can offer you for the pleasure of your company for a WHOLE AFTERNOON in which to renew a friendship which has lasted since our schooldays.
