: : The question becomes, "Do we want to keep doing it?"
: It hurts. And the hurt is beginning to overide the rewards. Turmoil, confrontation, demands, non-cooperation, unrealistic expectations ... what can I do?
: : We'll just have to see ... Just wanted everyone to know where I'm at.
: Dear Rich,
: It is tragic to see so much pain reflected from a person who has simply tried to create a decent place for decent people to learn about the movie, history and Indian culture and to share their thoughts and creativity. There is no law that says you have to see your happiness and your peace of mind destroyed as a result of your own good intentions, and those of us who love and appreciate you and Elaine for the wonderful world of Mohicanland would be the last to say you have to continue to make yourselves targets for the sick minds on the Internet.
: If it is impossible to bring the perpetrators of all this hate and sickness to bay, I think the only option you have for keeping Mohicanland up is to exercise the right you have to censor your own Board. Despite the extremists who believe in bringing all of society down to the lowest common denominator by making perversion the universal standard of social acceptance, you DO have the right to keep your own life and environment clean, and you DO have the right to delete posts which do not conform with the guidelines so clearly and unequivocally posted on the site. The difficult part is to delete these things from our lives and then ignore them - forget them.
: I remember a joke about Talullah Bankhead saying that she had to put her mansion up for sale because she dropped an egg on the floor trying to make her own breakfast, and it was the maid's day off. Well, eggs - rotten and otherwise - get dropped on Mohicanland floors, too, but you have the right to clean them up, and I hardly think we who use the Board with respect would complain. The delete button is the world's greatest invention, whether it be on a website or in E-mail.
: I know the problem is far more complicated than this. You can't spend all day every day scanning the entire Internet to see what kind of rotten eggs are being thrown behind your back as well as into your E-mail and onto the Board. It appears that simply denying publicity to these destroyers of human happiness is not going to stop them. Envy and greed fill empty lives and eventually seem to gain a life of their own. Just deleting would not solve the problem of the poison being injected into your own life and that of your family.
: We would hate to lose the wonderful relationship we have with you and Elaine and with all the legitimate participants in Mohicanland, but at this point, your own peace of mind is more important than anything else. My feeling is that we will all support whatever decision you make that is in your best interest and the best interest of your family.
: You have our love and appreciation for the joy you have given us.
: Gayle
Dear Rich,
I don't post on this board alot, but I find myself drawn to check it out at least once a week, but more often than not it is daily. It would be a tremendous loss for this site to go away, but I understand at least partially what you and Elaine are going thru and I just want you to know that I support you in whatever decision you make. Remember you have made a fun and informative contribution here and many people have benefited. The snakes in the grass out there on the net, well they show their true colors by their actions. It is a shame to see them win.
By the way, thanks for sharing your thoughts with us about this it had to be a hard thing for you to do.
