: : Sarah, One reason I thought perhaps Uncas did Alice's hair is that among the Blackfoot Confederacy of Montana and Alberta the warriors took great pleasure in grooming their women's hair, or so I've read. A similar cultural practice may have existed among the Mohican people. I can easily picture Uncas braiding Alice's hair, although the tense atmosphere of their environment at the time might well have precluded such a 'relaxed' moment. DVD countdown, Rich? 70 days by my calendar. Here's hoping...

: : :I noticed the following, and hope you folks will comment. Prior to being under the falls, Alice's hair hangs straight down in disarray. When Uncas grabs her from stepping out and giving their presence away her hair is the same. Immediately following their 'moment'when the Huron's enter the cave we see Cora and Alice confronted by Magua. Alice is sporting two braids, one on either side of her face. She carries those braids with her to the death. Likewise, I noticed after running the tape slow several times, Uncas is sporting two slender braids, one behind each ear, following his 'moment with Alice.

: : : I noticed that one awhile back -- that point at which her hair shows up looking like his.  I like to think that in the gaps between footage (those moments they DIDN'T film, darn it), she's done her hair like his on purpose.  She would have been young and silly enough that that would have struck her fancy to imitate him or something, and after having had that body contact at the burial ground and then the soon-to-be-seen kissing scene behind the waterfall (fingers crossed), braiding her hair like his is JUST the kind of thing she would have done.

: Great post; and Sarah, a good reason; young and "in Love"???; I think I saw Uncas with a thin braid at Cameron's cabin when they came on it after the "War Party" had been there; but as I had said; I think Alice's braid is more of a "solidarity" (no spell check on this post, thank you very much, you teachers out there...) thing with the unseen "scene" between her and Uncas...maybe we'll see who did the braiding in the new DVD version...or it was just, at worst case, a "make-up-hair stylist's"  blunder...or maybe DDL did her hair like he did Madeline Stowe's makeup those last days of production....
