Now before you all laugh at me and tell me they didn't HAVE duct tape back in Hawkeye's day, that just shows how little you know about Colonial history! Nya nya nya.

Of course it wasn't CALLED duct tape back then. It was called Sticky Linen.

It was made in log factories by men and women who would cut long strips of linen about two inches wide, and smear one side of it with a particularly sticky tar. Then they would roll the whole thing up and package it in wet leaves shrink wrapped by holding the package next to the fire.

You could always tell the people who worked in the Sticky Linen factory because they had tar up to the elbows and vagrant strips of linen stuck all over their bodies. When they were walking home at night they looked like windsocks with the strips blowing in the breeze.

This was a VERY important and appreciated product in Colonial days and was quite useful for those times that Hawkeye's tomahawk head flew off his handle, or his moccasins wore thin. Wrap some Sticky Linen around it and walla! Fixed!

I believe Mr Hawkeye even used some on Cora's mouth to stop all the whining about the lifestyle she had committed to by going to Can-Tuck-Ee with him and had tired of sleeping in dirt and eating possum.

Nuff Said. I hope this history lesson clears things up. It's the God's own truth!
