: : Of course part of this is due to the overwhelming responsibilities that have come my way as NW (Tahquohee) District rep' for the Southern Cherokee Nation, and my other duties associated with that as a council member.

: : Like most mixed-bloods, my family long ago (in East TN) "lost" alot of their Cherokee heritage when they went upon the "white path". 
: : This of course was due to "social reasons" of hundred or so years ago. Anyhow, like many, my clan connections have been lost over time, but there are those within the Cherokee who have ways of finding these things out. And it is to one of these spiritual guides I have gone to find my clan (due to certain circumstances, including a personal visit as a child from a wolf in the New Mexican mountains, we suspect that I am of the Wolf Clan).

: : Also, I am also embarking upon a "journey" to find my "Cherokee Name". This will include fasting, prayers to the Grandfather, etc.

: : I have been asked by someone upon this list (I wont mention names ) to share these "journies" with y'all upon the board, and though I maybe able to give a vague "outline" of what I experience, just today one of our spiritual leaders & a Band Chief has told us in the Southern Cherokee to NOT share details of our traditional & ancient ceremonies
: : with other people. The details are to be kept within the Nation, for the people of the SCN only. I'm sorry about that, but I do  promise to share what I can in the future.

: I'm sorry you will be out of touch for a while.  Whatever will we do without Simon Girty?  But I think what you are doing is wonderful.  I wish you great success with your quest.  As much as we would love to have you tell us everything you experience, we most certainly understand the traditions that surround what you are doing.  We really look forward to hearing as much as you can tell us about what you discover about yourself and your tribal history.  Good luck and happy experiences.
