: : Again, I do not believe people considered John Jr. a hero...YET!  It was the HOPE of what he might become that moved so many of us.  As for simply being "his parent's child," I guess that is something you either have to feel in your heart, or go on being unable to understand.  Most of us took John-John to our hearts when he was a little boy in Camelot, and there he has remained. There are some things in life that cannot be explained away by cold, hard logic.  Perhaps this is one of them...

: : And again, we cannot pay tribute to people we are not aware of.  We cannot grieve for personal tragedies we don't hear about.  Most of the "unsung heroes" you describe are not in the public eye for one reason or another, often their own choice, and it isn't the lack of glitz that causes their anonymity at all.  

: : As for "understanding my admiration for President JFK," truth to tell, I suspect his son was a more honorable man in many ways, having thus far avoided most of the more typical Kennedy pitfalls.  This is why so many of us felt he had inherited the best qualities of BOTH of his parents and, combined with the Kennedy drive to serve his country, might have become just the hero we'd all love to have.  He was a work still in progress, but now we'll never know.

: Well said, Marcia!! You are so right!! Some things just can't be explained...As a matter of fact I was asking myself for the last few days why John Jr's death got to me so much. Of course I wasn't able to find a logical explanation..I guess I never will...
