Interesting, but strange

interesting to read all these reactions. While I certainly feel sorry for anyone involved in a fatal accident, I am a bit amazed to realize that apparently, European newspapers are correct when they write about America and its royalty. There have been editorials there remarking that apparently Americans, although they didn't want to be British and under a crown, have a very British desire to have royals.

I also wonder how veterans feel about the Navy being involved in the burial of a civilian with military honors, just because he happened to be a president's kid. Is the name that powerful? There are many sons of outstanding fathers, many families who suffer multiple tragic losses, many children who loose their parents all too early. What is it really that made him special other than the glitz?

But then, I have to admit that I didn't understand the public reaction to Princess Diana's death either.
