: : Hey everyone!  I`m posting to you from Japan.  I don`t have much time online here but I wanted to ask a question- have any of you read Montcalm and Wolfe, by Francis Parkman?  I`ve been reading it in my spare time here and it is excellent!  It recounts the entire history of the F and I War, plus a lot more.

: I have it but haven't started it.  I am going through "A Few Acres of Snow:  The saga of the French and Indian Wars", an account of the events leading up to the F&I war (starting with Columbus, actually) plus the war itself, by Robert Leckie. I've not read Leckie before but apparantly he's quite the author of military history.  He refers frequently to Parkman, calling him the greatest historian of that period.  At the same time, Leckie does, on occassion, call into question some of Parkman's statements.

: I'm really enjoying the book but either the writer, the editor, or both were appallingly careless -- it's the worst editing I've ever seen.  Repeats himself way too much, almost word for word within 58 pages.  And he says stupid things like "the sole and only credential..."  I am learning a lot, and he is very detailed, but I feel I could enjoy it all much more if I weren't distracted by such lack of care.  

: Maybe Parkman will be better.
