Hi all,
I hope I didn't dream reading this, but I popped over to the DDL webpage yesterday and I pointed to the news section. A few days ago some info from a publication was added about a book called " The Notebook" written by Nick Sparks (also wrote Message in a Bottle). Apparently Jim Sheridan (My Left Foot, In the Name of the Father, The Boxer - can you guess where this is going?) is under serious consideration for directing the movie. The story takes place in New Bern, NC (a little river hamlet about 30 miles from where I am)and is a very poignant love story spanning the characters lives from teenagers to old age. The book is one of my favorites and if Mr. Sheridan were to continue using his favorite leading man - well, its just too much to bear.
Nick Sparks is a North Carolina native (and I hope I have the facts straight) that was living in South Carolina in a town just outside of Greenville, SC (where I was living at the time) and was selling pharmaceuticals. He learned that his book would be published by recieving a check in the mail for $1 million. Needless to say he's no longer in sales. The "notebook" was a real one kept by his wife's grandfather, so the story is based on fact surrounding her grandmother's struggle with Alzheimer's disease and how it devastates her memories. Nick now lives with his wife and kids in New Bern, NC. I had a patient once who knew Nick and said that the fame went to his head a little, so they now refer to him as "Book Boy". Incidentally, Nick's first book was a collaboration about a Lakota Journey or something like that. All this is not very Mohicanny, but I hope we're within six degrees here.
I know, I know --- there's a lot of IFs in this info, but maybe if we all keep our fingers crossed and pull out our four-leaf clovers.....you never know !!!!
Hopin', and wishin', and dreamin' in NC,
Diana
