*note: somehow this got lost yesterday, it did not appear on the board nor in the archives, so I'll repost here....enjoy [I know Kate did ;-) ]...
Body of Message:
The 'white cross on blue background' is the 'SALTIRE', Scotland's own flag. The 'gold background with the red lion rampant' centre is the flag of the Scottish monarchy - it is flown from the rooftop when the monarchy are in residence at whatever castle it is being flown from, ie. Holyrood Palace, Edinburgh (which was the tartan of my kilt that I was wearing on Sunday night!) or Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire. Also, the Queen Mother can fly it at her home, Castle of Mey, in Caithness (northern tip of Scotland). Technically speaking, they should not be flying it. They are NOT hereditary monarchs of Scotland. However, since 1706, they have taken THAT over, as well as the people! (Sorry, I guess it's pretty obvious I am Not a monarchist! In spite of yesterday's wedding!!)
