Apparently some of you LOTM'ers are also brimming with the overall love of American history, so I thought you could help me track down some documentation to verify the origin of a Confederate flag! The flag belongs to my ex-husband and has already been authenticated (No! No hope of collecting my share---just asking for the thrill of the hunt!).
This flag was confiscated by a Union soldier named Patsy (for Patrick) Bridgett or Bridger who fought with the Irish Brigade (from New York?). He took it during the battle of Vicksburg. He eventually returned to or settled in New Britain CT, where my former father-in-law received it as a gift from a descendant. My question is, where can I find any documentation stating that this soldier was at the battle of Vicksburg or what his rank or activities might have been? He may have come from Connecticut, but reportedly fought with an Irish regiment, and CT didn't have one. Any ideas where to begin?
