Tom,
Friendly suggestion: Read more than just one or two reputable, published, renowned historians. Spend some time studying history at the university level - you will find one must read as many different historians with diverse points of view as possible to be truely knowledgeable. Evaluate their conclusions and sources, do your own research into primary source documents, then think for yourself and make your own decision.. You do yourself and others a disserve when you read only those writers who support your point of view and doggedly pursue and defend a theory without proper citation of primary sources. Whether you are right or wrong, your argument is doomed to fail.
