: James McPherson is one of the finest if not the finest historian on the Civil War working today. --- > an avowed Lincolnite who has been on record as having no love for the South or Southerners or reenactors...

: Edwin Bearss is well know for the enthusiastic delivery he gave on Ken Burns "The Civil War." ---> the show which has since been panned by numerous other historians including a whole book written on the subject...

: There is no one alive who knows more about the ANV than Robert Krick. ---> that is your opinion (again)...

: These are scholars whose credentials are impecable and scholarship is universally acclaimed.

>And thus you close your mind to any other works (including the O.R. published by the military?)...

: I am very familiar with their work and with their standing in the Civil War community. If they say the myth of large numbers of black soldiers fighting for the Confederacy is bunk then I believe it.

>Ahh, there is my answer. You are closed minded!
I'm thankful I'm willing to have an open mind & look at BOTH sides of the story, as well as dig thru records myself...
oh, did I tell you I have a roster of about a dozen blacks who served with John Hunt Morgan as fighting men in the 6th KY cavalry? We know of another listed on a memorial to the dead of Camp Morton (I believe) that was in the 2nd KY Cavalry...
Did you know about the monument to the Harvey's Scouts, a unit of black cav in Mississippi that dogged the tail of Sherman?
Of course not, these are all "myths" to you & never exsisted.
Go on and believe that, you ignorance is showing ;-)

: On the other hand, I am leery of information I find on the internet. Unfortunatly "Trooper" Harris I have never heard of you nor have I ever seen any scholarly material written by you. And I have little use for amateurs dabbling in pseudo internet history and spreading myths to promote an agenda.

>And because you've never heard of him that makes his research less valid?
You know, I've never seen your published works, so that makes your "expert opinion" less valid...
Oh, in case your wondering, I have an article that is to be published in the near future in "Blue & Gray" magazine about George Pickett's stay in Bellingham, WA prior to the War, & his almost getting us involved in a war with England.
Never heard of it? You'll have to buy the magazine ;-)

Now I do admit that I do know of Trooper Harris, that I did mention to him your slam of the 37th TX site, & of course they have a right to defend themselves, but I have no idea who "Bubba" (etc) is...

People with narrow minds, not willing to do their own research or who limit themselves to a couple sources amaze & frustrate me.
It shows me they are afraid of learning the full-story, and helps in proving how ignorant they are.

"Champ"
