Of course, we have to figure out some way to raise Uncas from the dead (or have lots of flashbacks). Anyone want to come up with a concept? I'm all ears...

: : Chris,
: : Here's an idea - you could write the script as a sequel to The Deerslayer instead of LOTM. The period between the two books covered the time when Chingachgook and Hawkeye were in their late 20s and early 30s. Chingachgook married Wah ta Wah (which would give you a neat Indian marriage ceremony to work with) and then you have the opportunity to write the birth of Uncas and his early years. Hawkeye and Chingachgook were busy building their magnificent reputations on the frontier. The time period would be between about 1743 and 1757, so you could pull out some good colonial war action - maybe the Battle of Niagara that Cooper intended to write as part of the series, but never got around to. It definitely is a time-gap that needs to be filled in.

: Wow! Please allow me to say (if I have any credibility left) that this is one great idea! I would love to see this written!!! Wouldn't it be fun if we all had the time to write our own version?

Hey Pat,
What a blast. Haven't we all pondered what might have became of our LOTM friends, Magua, Ching, Hawkeye and Cora? Although you may be wish'n for a real, honest to goodness sequel worthy of Coopers orignal characters, I have a confession to make.
After about the 20th time I watched the movie, I got inspired to write a silly, tongue-in-cheek short story relating Cora's perceptions of their amazing adventure. For some reason, I never finished my little satire. However, I did get far enough along in my fantasy to realize that the the logical focus of a sequel would, of course, be Duncas. Say it like this..."Doooooooncas".
Duncas.......the nerdy, albeit devastingly handsome offspring of Cora and Hawkeye. Duncas. Named for Duncan and Uncas, the dead heroes of our beloved film. Hence, the nerdiness and good looks. (Naturally, I want Eric Schweig in the sequel as Duncas) .His full name: Duncas Cora Munroe Poe. According to Hawkeye, (according to me) " any man would be proud to be named for Cora, she's stronger than ten men, and she is sure as heck stronger than Alice!"
OK, guys, you get the drift. Not a exactly a literary classic, but I thought it had possibilites. On second thought........:)
It's been awhile since I visited Mohicanland. So I just want to say a great big hello to everyone! And I sure hope Wes Studi calls Elaine and Rich. What a great interview that could be.
Way to go, Pat!!!
