If you want to approach a military theme, you might want to explore the chivalry that existed in the 18th century style of warfare. In other words, how Monro holds out for as long as possible to delay Montcalm from advancing further south into NY, and how Montcalm offers the surrender proposals. This is typical of warfare of the period, and demonstrates that the overall objective of a campaign was not to annihilate and enemy. It can be an interesting topic to those unacquainted with it.
