: it has been awhile since reviewing Mohican Musings, thus I went back for a "refresher" ;-) and while reading about who might've inspired the creation of our beloved Hawkeye, y'all make a very strong case for Shipman, I recall that a number of Dan'l Boone biographers [including the A&E Biography series] makes a strong case that Boone also inspired  Cooper in his creation [in paticular Boone's rescuing of the girls abducted by the Shawnee].
: It is possible to think that "Hawkeye" was in fact a "composite" of both men [I would consider Robert Rogers a remote canidate], as you point out, Shipman was known in his region, & Boone was a legend in his own time.
