I am willing to concede that when confronted with DDL's Hawkeye on film, I frequently am not of a mind to think about anything so cerebral as symbolism, at least during one or two of the more revealing scenes.

As for our hero losing his footing, I may have solved that "mystery"! Could he have fallen down because he was clouted over the head by a Huron warclub the size of a Hyundai?!! (as opposed to doing so gratuitously, just to give middle-aged housewives such as myself heart palpitations!) Hmmmmm...? ;o}
