At the risk of ruining my carefully cultivated reputation as a slavering slave to anything Hawkeye/DDL related, I do wish to make clear that I pay a lot of attention to OTHER things in this movie and other films, as well...even, sometimes, films that have no bearing on Hawkeye and don't star DDL. ;o)

I am sure that Mann played with time and characters. I've certainly learned that much on this site, if I wasn't aware of it before. But I still do not see any cause to believe Magua's words about the Grey Hair had any hidden symbolism. And I am frequently aware of symbolism in MANY movies, lest you think I am a complete dolt, here. I just don't think EVERY movie is filled with symbolism. Some are just what they seem to be, and that's what I believe the case is with LOTM. It really isn't a matter of my being obtuse, uninformed, or even distracted by Hawkeye. It's just my opinion in this instance.

And Victoria, please do post more on history here. We are all interested in it, though some of us may not have as much specific knowledge in certain areas as others. As a matter of fact, I copied your entire Grey Hair discussion to date to forward to Gayle, as I knew she would be fascinated. I, for one, enjoy the board much more when there are posts of ALL types appearing.
