"Ate the skin and left the meat". Hey; I must agree with a few of you that in reading Cooper's wonderful concept of life in the frontier somewhat boring and at times very hard to follow. Cooper wrote this in a very different time and a different language. It certainly is not 1990's English! MM knows how to tell a compelling story AND be historically accurate...as accurate as Hollywood will let him!! Unfortunately what the movie gains in accuracy in costume, settings, and props, it lacks in character development. If you didnt read the book or at least learned about the time period in school, and just saw the pic, one would still know nothing about the characters. I always felt the movie could have been at least 20 minutes longer to accomplish this....WE NEED A DIRECTORS CUT!!!
