Thanks to Darla, I now know that Native American Indian Heritage Month is in November!

Was anyone aware of the United Nation's declaration that 1995-2005 is the International Decade of the World's Indigenous People? In 1995 (the 50th anniversary of the UN and the Year of Tolerance), they celebrated the first International *Day* of the World's Indigenous People on August 9th. This past year, there were events marking that day during the week of August at the UN in New York. What happened to the American Indians is not unlike what happened to many indigenous populations everywhere. It's interesting to see what other countries have to say about these vanishing cultures.

That's your UN update for the day!
