: Rich, I did wonder about that nut cracker statement.Gotta admit, I was impressed with that scary war club, and a little dissapointed to find out from Mr. Means that in actual life the war club would have been a mere "nut cracker". That somehow conjures an image of Chingachgook running through the woods with one of those Christmasy toy soldiers. It seem a bit odd that Michael Mann would permit such a prominently featured weapon to be less than authentic.
: It seems Russel Means was trying to make a point of some sort, "....Michael Mann, of course, you know the white man, bigger is better ... so, he enlarged it by about four times, put a spike in it. He says he had seen a replica of that in a museum."
: Still a little confused about size of the war club, but not about the attitude behind the remark.

>>Kathy,
it is true that the club used by Russell Means was a tad bit enlarged from its original size, the original "gunstock clubs" I've seen would have been aprox. 38" overall with a 7" spike.
The ball-headed clubs shown were about right though [19" - 22" seems about the average length].
The "gunstock" club was not that old of a design, by the way, it does not pre-date the arrival of the white man, it imitated the design of the "thundersticks" carried by the white men.
