I thought that I would pass this on , Wayne watson, maker of killdeer was murdered several years ago by someone who broke into his home. I remember reading this in Muzzleloader magazine
several years ago. Sorry for the bad news.
: : I'm sure this has been covered a million times.... but exactly what type of flintlock is Killdeer? Where can you find a replicia? (Dixie gun works ,perhaps?) I'm a nubie to this page but it's GREAT!!! Thanks!!!

: : O'siyo Paul,
: : this is probably old news, saw your original post & thought I'd try to help here. Though I dont have any specific information about "Killdeer", its profile reminds me of a .52 caliber Jacob Dickert longrifle from the 18th century that I saw pictured in the book "The Frontier Riflemen" by Richard B. LaCrosse, and I actually would not be at all surprised to find out that it was modeled after one of Dickert's beautiful creations.
: : Off hand I dont recall who made "Killdeer" for LOTM [anybody else out there?], but I can recommend gunsmith Ryan McNabb, out of Ooltewah, TN.
: : Ryan wont admit it, but he is a master gunsmith, who crafts completely handmade rifles of the 18th century, and more'n likely can craft you a replica of "Killdeer". [Incedently, Ryan is going to recreate for me a copy of a 1760's era NC Southern "Plain" rifle, or "Poor Boy", in .54 caliber -- around here you dont want to use anything less than .50 cal. for elk, & defintly nothing below .54 cal. for bear! Especially since griz' tend to reside in the elk habitat area]...
: : Anyhow, Ryan is a real nice fellar', and can fix you up with exactly what you want. You can reach him at:
: : rwmcnabb@utc.campus.mci.net
: : [tell him Champ sent ya'!]
: : Hope this will help a little...

: Champ (and Paul),
: I thought it was a Wayne Watson who made Killdeer with the barrel made by Don Getz of Getz Barrels.
: Check out the "swish" engine on the main page and there should be some more info on the rifle on different pages of this great site.
