Siyo Elaine,

You will find many examples in the War Between The States of Freemasonary having an affect on such things as care of wounded, successful escape attempts, etc.
There really should be a book written on the subject. Maybe I'll ask my compatriots in the Sons of Confederate Veterans, a number of them are Freemasons, and may know of a book on the subject.
You bring up a very good & much over looked point.
I believe that on more than one occassion Brant saved a life due to Freemason connection.
