In truth ... yes, I think he did buy her. I doubt she offered much in the way of objections. Most likely she offered not much more than an exasperated sigh while thinking "Damn! Wouldn't it be my luck?! That dirty Girty would have to show up just when I was finding myself!" {Family lore held that she was a "captive" bride ... but we know about family cover ups!}
At any rate, she stuck with him 'til the end. And he lived a loooong time; until 1818. She still had 34 good years ahead of her by then.
