Let me interject ... correct me if I'm misinterpreting, but I THINK the lower trail Karen refers to is the Forest Stroll, to the very bottom of the falls, where, indeed, no filming took place.

The great cliff scenes took place on the Cliff Trail, as we all know. The Skyline Trail, which runs above that, actually did figure in the filming. That is where the falling bodies actually fell from ... to land on mats & netting on the Cliff Trail below! Did I confuse EVERYONE?
