Dear Rich,
Shrub is a colonial drink. It's usually made of rum, with fruit juice (whatever is handy) and sugar. Then you let it sit for a couple of months. The longer it sits, the better and smoother it gets. I tend to make mine from real lemons, but some day I'm going to venture into other fruits, as the colonial cookbooks offer recipes for them.
Seamus prefers his shrub chilled, but I'm fine drinking it warm. Ping must be served chilled for it to be at it's best.
I will be donating a couple of bottles of well-aged shrub for Ariel's Cabin, and Major Mike is donating a couple of bottles of Ping for the same. I hope whomever wins will share!!

: : Happy Birthday Seamus!!!
: Yes, Seamus ... a most memorable one to you!
: : Hey everyone, Seamus is celebrating his 60th today!!!
: Indeed, I think that does qualify for the extra "er" in the phrase "Old[er] Geezer." I mean that's REALLY old!
: : By now he's probably on his way to Fort Frederick, MD, and I hope to see him there tomorrow to shake his hand and have a toast of 1-year-old homemade Shrub (even though he's a port fan).
: That's awful! Resorting to eating BUSHES! Do I HAVE to grow up??? [Ok, ok, I'm not quite THAT dumb ... but, what exactly IS "shrub"?]
: : Hope he doesn't shoot me for telling everyone how old he is! heeeheeeheee
: Nor I, for making fun of it!
: Enjoy Frederick, my friend!
