: Happy Birthday Seamus!!!
: Hey everyone, Seamus is celebrating his 60th today!!! By now he's probably on his way to Fort Frederick, MD, and I hope to see him there tomorrow to shake his hand and have a toast of 1-year-old homemade Shrub (even though he's a port fan).
: Hope he doesn't shoot me for telling everyone how old he is! heeeheeeheee

Well, Chauncey, my dear friend...and all the others who have wished me well on the anniversary of my natal day.....Thank you, very, very much!
Yes..I was at Fort Frederick in MaryLand defending the western frontier against incursions of hostiles. My 3rd Battalion Pennsylvania, The Augusta Regiment,(www.reenacting.net/augustaregt)along with MaryLand Forces and Cousin Malcolm MacWilliam's 77th Highlanders, Montgomerie's, Grenadier C'oy, garrisoned the Fort(Cousin Malcolm is the 1st Serjeant now, you know!). Pvt. Chauncey, Major Rogers...our friend Mike Fitzgerald... and his lovely daughter, Sgt. Paul Stevens and his beautiful bride-to-be dropped in for a visit and to help celebrate. Chauncey, the Shrub was outstanding! The barracks fairly shook Saturday evening and well into the night with the singing of tavern songs, sea chanties and assorted ribald tunes, jokes, lies, and music of the fiddle, tin whistle, drum, with tin cups and bare hands banging on the tables in time with the music. Laughter filled the air as one story-teller after another tried to outdo the other. The firelight and candlelight along with the acrid smell of woodsmoke made the scene come very much alive. The celebration went on into the wee hours and left one feeling as if it really was the 18th century. Many of the 30 or so who were there commented the next day that they had never had such a great time. It was one of those moments which cannot adequately be described...you have to have been there! Not even the Kodak Moment could capture it!
Oh...yes! After our dinner of venison, salmon, ham, sweet potatoes, dried corn, green beens, and bread pudding, (all done in the fireplace) my lads presented me with a large bottle of Port, too, Chauncey!
It does NOT get any better...good wine, good shrub, good food...and great friends....it all adds up a memorable 60th for me!
Thank you all!
Seamus
