Always nice to see, whether knowingly or not, that someone links to a page on our own site when trying to prove a point! See early morning post by "western john" called "Historically Accurate?" ... Speaking of history, I notice that the "This Day in History" applet features a subject that's been oft discussed on this Board ... the HMS Bounty mutiny!
Another thing VERY often discussed throughout the years on this Board has been the "additional footage" factor. Where is all that cutting room floor stuff? Most asked about has been the, probably mostly irrelevant, "Alice/Uncas" love scene footage. Here's the E-Mail of the Week ... while it doesn't mention the Alice/Uncas stuff, it does sound familiar to a version saw long ago by Ros:
"Hello from France!
First I would like to tell you that I love your site, I just discovered it and found it fascinating. I would have loved to have been able to participate to your gathering but I won't be back in the US before August. Will you do it again?
I am French and I have been living in America since 1989. Like everybody else I saw the american version of lotm when it was released in 92. Back in France on vacation this spring, my sister just showed me her tape of The Last of the Mohicans. I couldn't believe the version I saw! That is why I am writing to you today to let you know how different the french version showed in movie theaters and on TV is. It is different from the very start in the cabin. The sequence is different (we see them say grace for example) and other details. Latter on the diversion by Major Hayward described by you about the DVD, is there and has always been there, mixed with the courrier dispaching the letter to general Webb. Even the end of the movie is different! With a dialogue, if focuses on the two heros and their future. It's very beautiful too, but different. I like this version a lot, although the american one maybe more powerful.
I thought you and fans of lotm would like to know, there are still more things to discover...! Do you know if there's a japanese version , an intalian version , a spanish version?!
Back in Pennsylvania, I would be happy to show the french version (and translate it!) to some who would be interested. By the way do you have a "fan club" of the lotm?
Thank you for your work."

One of this year's Gathering highlights, for me at least, figures to be the whitewater rafting trip down the Nolichucky River. For one thing, that's the location I've least visited since the days of '93 when I was seeking out the locations ... been there, to the best of my recollection, but once! So, it'll be good to re-visit a "fresh" site. Even more so, though, because I've never been whitewater rafting before and am excited about the prospect ... the Nolichucky River Gorge is a beautiful, and remote, place and seeing it from the inside, via its highway, the river, ought to be very special! Anyway, I've been in touch with our guide recently, brought about by a request from one of this year's Gatherers. Here's what he had to say:
"am glad you wrote to ask questions.
Answer ...
Is it possible for someone opting not to raft with us to join us for the lunch?. NO. Where would that be? Our lunch will be served on a beach deep in the river gorge. The turrain on both sides are impassible and rail road tracks and trussel are no traspassing.
Few additional throughts: It is true that no experiance is necessary and we will provide all the equipment (Type V personal flotationd device, Paddle and Helment). However, the river is adventure level rafting and there are risk envolved. I guess it is the "Not to worry" statement that concerns me. I am not suggesting that anyone should worry about the trip but they do need to understand and accept the the risk. I also would suggest to discourage any peer pressure in someones decision to go rafting. All three filming locations are in the deep section of the river gorge and we will paddle through all of them. We will be on the river from six to seven hour unless for some reason we have a lot of rainfall just before the trip.
So if anyone has medication they need to take, bee sting eppy kit or breathing inhaler please bring it and we will have a dry container. I would suggest bringing an old pair of tenna shoes and socks or renting river shoes from us for $3.00. It is also a good ideal for females to wear a bathing suit under any clothing they may bring to wear on the river.
For the more adventurious folks we will have one man inflatable funyaks. These boats are part of our full day trip format in the summer and will be a great way for some of the folks on the trip to experiance the river and paddle through the filming locations. We run our trip very structured and there will be instruction and direction to the funyakers all day.
I hope I have helped you. Email me if you have any further questions. Talk to soon or I'll see ya on the river!!!
Thanks
Tom"

Remember, deadline for signing on is May 20!
Those of you in the Pennsylvania area who'd like to participate in the filming of a couple of major F&I War events, remember that shoot is scheduled for next Saturday, May 4. For details & directions, follow the link at:

Finally, in our never-ending quest to seek out unobtrusive AND relevant ways to earn a buck via this web site, to enable it to pay for itself, we've added yet another storefront. This one, in association with Amazon.com, again, features items very specific to the cast of LOTM, and refreshes each time you access the page, keeping it up-to-date all the time. Every time you order something from Amazon, through those links, Mohican Press earns a few cents ... the total greatly aiding our sometimes near-futile attempt at affording to maintain this site. Anyway, the system is not perfect ... I noticed a Wesley Snipes film sneaking into the Wes Studi section [unless Wes is actually IN that film??????], but it is pretty decent and will feature new flicks like the recent release of "The Big Eden," starring Eric Schweig, and DDL's forthcoming "Gangs of New York." So, when you feel the need to shop for videos, whether DVD or VHS, books, CDs, software, electronics, etc., please remember our new storefront, not to mention our History Channel hookup, and our old reliable, Storefronts on the Frontier.
And that's that ...
Happy Trails!
