The moral fabric of the US continues to decay, at least in some circles ... get this:

In a memo, passed around recently [I saw it yesterday], by the UNITED STATES Postal Service, it was declared that, in order not to offend anyone, we were no longer to refer to "Christmas" as "Christmas," but rather as "an end of year holiday"! Easter Week must now be "Spring Break," and even "Halloween" was trashed! [Sorry, I was too enraged by the time I read that to remember what we were to call THAT one!] This is no bunk! I signed the sheet, with "Merry Christmas." There is NO WAY I am going to comply with that! Start there, pretty soon NO ONE will have their identity ... it'll be a homogenous, bland, mix.

Anyway, Seamus' "Old Geezer" post stirred a memory in me ... as I, in my youth, probably enraged any number of then "Old Geezers" [of whose ranks I'm about ready ready to join!] ... 31 years ago today - April 24, 1971 - the largest demonstration against the Vietnam War took place in Washington, DC. - of which I am proud to say I was a part. About this time, I was stirring in the pre-dawn darkness & chill, from a brief sleep on the grass near the Washington Monument. The Mall would soon be wall-to-wall people, and the anti-war movement had reached its high water mark!

Anyway, a couple of my Uncles were none-too-fond of what they perceived as a commie "punk" ... they had survived WWII to see this! Their flesh & blood "tearing down America" - which was about as far from the truth as it comes. I feel for them now, but America is a Great Nation, and will survive even this rotting away from within [see Postal memo!] ... Vietnam was no WWII or War on Terrorism ...

Anyway, my point: "Punk" may be in the eye of the beholder! :)
