: I'm so glad you brought this up.
: I fear I was quite remiss in recommending the movie without mentioning it.
: The movie is rated R for "sexuality and violence".
: There's only a bit of nudity, and I won't give it away, but I think most of the ladies here will appreciate it.
Yeah ... no real biggie there, as far as movies go ...
: There is significant "sexuality", mostly in the love scenes between our hero and his wife. They're tender and not especially graphic, but parents may want view first.
Again, though a bit uncomfortable - when viewing with young 'uns - nothing too graphic.
: There's a lot of violence in the form of stabbing, hacking and shooting.
LOTM, Braveheart, Gladiator ... many others ... all feature THAT! Again, no problem. Gore, for gores sake (sorry, Al) can be a negative, but what I call "historically justified" blood & guts is, in my opinion, another story.
: Including what many, including some in the business, consider the best movie sword fight ever.
Count me among that group! GREAT scene!
: I'm sure any adult Mohicanite can handle it. But again, parents first. We're not talking about Zorro carving a 'Z' on Sergeant Garcia here.
: Now for the big problem, one of violence of a sexual sort: There is a molestation scene (no nudity) which is crude and intended to be. More to the point, there is a rape scene. It is brief, but shocking in it's brutality. The brutality isn't so much a matter of what you see as in the almost casual use of rape as a weapon of war. It especially comes as a shock if you're watching the movie for the first time with your nine year old (at the time) son without any forewarning that there is such a scene, as was the case with me. A quick grab for the remote, but it was an uncomfortable moment.
This is a POWERFUL scene. One of the all-time best. It is graphic, then again, NOT so. I brushed it off to my little ones' questions by saying, "he's bending her arms," or some other such foolishness.
This scene is unnerving, and not one I'd recommend having kids watch, but even this is not what really disturbed me about this film. It was the crude, and I do mean CRUDE, (though FUNNY!) comments tossed about regarding certain things I can't go into here during this family show. It's the language, plus a brief sequence between Brian Cox's character & the maid, that really gets to me.
Again, all in the context of watching with children. I love the film.
: So consider yourself forewarned.
Yep!
: The scene is dramatically and artistically justified, and is an integral part of the story, but it makes the film problematic for younger viewers.
Wholeheartedly agree!
