It was a barbaric act. But what also struck me was Perl's courage----I don't often use "reporter" and "brave" in the same sentence. He was a reporter, an American, a Jew, in a Muslim hot spot of the world. And he, of all people, probably knew what some of those people were capable of---and he still went on to do his job. That's courage.
