: Oh ... er ... is it that time again? Hmmmm ... let's see ... the weather? Pretty nice, a bit cool ... sunny, though ... uhmmm ... It is The Weekly Update time, right???? .... Ahhhh ... the girls had a little yard sale yesterday. Made 17 bucks ... gee ... no football ... a cow was out of the pasture late yesterday! There! No, ahhh ... uhmmmm ... AH! A 3-day weekend!! That's good ... Hey! How COME there's a 3-day weekend this time around???
: President's Day! The Greatest Leader of the Greatest Country in this World gets a day of recognition! Whoopdie-do! I mean, that's a post that certainly is deserving of recognition, no problem there - even if ther have been some Presidents I have loved to hate ... Tricky Dick, for one. But let's face it, everything is relative, and even though there may have been some real Bozos, by Presidential standards, it's still a pretty high lifetime achievement, you know? If one believes in this Country, and what it is all about, you sort of have to like the President ... relatively speaking, of course.
: Here's MY gripe. Tomorrow is a Day ... but, it used to be TWO Days ... George Washington's Birthday & Abraham Lincoln's Birthday. They were chucked in favor of one, all-inclusive, President's Day! How nice! What a disgrace, really. To make room for another holiday, we eliminated a day to two of the greatest Americans who ever lived. Right up there with Thomas Jefferson ... who gets no Day at all. Well, he does, actually ... tomorrow is President's Day! We get to honor him right along side Bill Clinton ... Now, don't get me wrong, I voted for Clinton, once. But, now way Clinton=Jefferson! NO way!
: @%!%*@
: Off the track ... the fact is, Washington & Lincoln served this Nation during its two most critical periods of history - its inception, and then its redefining - and served it well - outstandingly well, in fact. It's hard to imagine placing anyone above these two as great leaders of this great Nation, yet, we fail to individually acknowledge them, as a Nation today, when what they stood for means more than at any time since their eras - United We Stand! If two men ever symbolized that phrase ...
: Yet, in New Jersey, recently, I believe it was in the state capitol, Washington's picture was removed ... in an effort to make the gallery more diverse. That is truly a disgrace ... very sad ... when certain factions of this Nation forget, on purpose, from where it was we came!
: It matters not your race or nationality ... if you call yourself an American, the history of the NATION is the same ... oh, there are many threads and sidebars ... but the course of our National History is the same. And Washington & Lincoln, right at the forefront of that history, deserve to be remembered, and HONORED for their contributions to this Nation's History ... forever!
: And that's me thoughts on that!
: New on the Site this week:
: The Visual Consultants [picture above] (http://www.mohicanpress.com/visuals.html) and the Battle of Bushy Run (http://www.mohicanpress.com/bushy_run.html) - Now, I freely admit that my work on both these pages was adversely affected by distractions about the house, so I'm not sure if the intended effect was achieved ... Undoubtedly, both will be fleshed out in the near future. Anyway, they're there now ... if you're interested! Both, I think, add nicely to previously unturned pages of this Web Site.
: Plus, I re-did, a bit, the Companion Guide Online Version to make it more just that ... An Online Edition ... not sure how far I want to go with that project, because I'm not sure of its book-form future ... but, what's there now is there now, at: http://www.mohicanpress.com/companion_guide_covers.html
: And, of course, the 2002 Gathering Page was once again updated. As we stand now, a good little group is forming up - including many first-timers. Welcome! Undoubtedly, the dynamics will differ this go round, but there's enough "veterans" attending to keep it from becoming foreign territory. As someone said to me - "Looks like another great itinerary with enough new, unique, and exciting activities to make it just [as] fun to look forward to as all the others. This never gets old hat!!!!" - I agree!
: Which brings me to the E-Mail Of The Week:
: "For years I thought my passion for this movie was just a little weird as I
: am normally not one prone to excesses. None of my friends or family seem to
: share this passion, but I must admit I am obsessed with this movie. Your
: website has been a real eye opener and I appreciate all that you have done.
: There is a lot that goes into what makes a great movie and it all begins
: with the soundtrack. I was so absorbed into the story, soundtrack, the
: scenery, and the acting that I did not realize that this movie was filmed in
: W. NC where my father grew up. We returned there many times when I was
: growing up and it is indeed beautiful country. I have not returned since I
: was 15 (now 60) and have had a yearning to return even before I saw this
: movie. I am a genealogist with a deep love of history and now I will make
: plans to return.
: I never tire of watching this movie or listening to the CD and thanks to you
: I will now have an even deeper appreciation of this fine work. I will order
: your guidebook and return to your website many times. Thanks again!"
: Thanks back to you ...
: Happy President's Day!

Rich,
Good job on Bushy Run! As with all the places we play, this site is very special, and it is an awesome experience to be there and "feel" it. I would encourage all who can to go there and pay homage to the brave lads who served and died there so long ago.
Thanks!! Pax aye!
