I anticipate this to be my last new thread of the day!

Many of you, on our Gathering E-mail list, know all this already. For the rest, maybe this'll entice you!

Here's the Gathering agenda, to date:

Thursday - We meet at CRP for a breakfast under the Pavilion, then, hiker's lunch in hand we go off to hike the trails on the cliffs above. We have, time-wise, till 4PM. That allows for a quick shower & travel time to Asheville. But wait, we're kind of blending in another event - kind of the alternative itinerary I've always resisted - this being the shooting, throwing & kissing meet. So, you can stay at the park all day, or, after doing the hike, you can move on for the fun & games. Your choice. The important thing is to be in Asheville, at Spirits on the River, for a dinner of authentic Native fare, followed by an acoustic concert by Bill Miller, of the Stockbridge-Munsee Mohican tribe. Pretty fair, and full, day, I'd venture ...

Friday - An all-day whitewater raft trip up on the Nolichucky. This figures to be a blast! The guy leading our excursion was with the film crew when they shot up there, and he's rounding up as many guides as possible who were on-set to join us. We're going to paddle over to the film site, they'll tell their tales ... and then the real fun begins. We ride the river! They say, the first half is wild ... then we break for lunch [included] ... leaving a more relaxing second half to simply enjoy the scenery.

Saturday - More whitewater, in the form of Dupont's 4 waterfalls. Then, we get to see LOTM on the big screen.

Sunday - A tour of Linville Gorge ... scene of fully one-third of the movie, maybe more. Soldier #2 pretty much leads this day with his on-the-scene stories of the filming. It's a long, grueling day, which will end up at the Tiki Bar of the Geneva ... we'll do raffles, and say our good-byes.

Still on the table, but not yet official: Roger Worley's LOTM display as the Grand Raffle prize, Tim Cordell, Fort William Henry living history interpreter, doing his "Days of Infamy" presentation, and even maybe H. David Wright displaying his frontier art.

All-in-all, lots of hiking, lots of beautiful scenery, lots of fun, lots of good people, and lots of special touches ... only one movie ... darn!

So, consider making the trip down [or up] to North Carolina for a special time you won't soon forget.
